Roger Francis Verstegen 1927 - 2023

Roger Francis Verstegen, faithful husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed peacefully into his eternal life at home surrounded by his caring family on November 10, 2023. Roger was born in Little Chute, WI to Otto and Wilhelmina (Vandenberg) Verstegen on October 10, 1927.

Following high school, Roger enlisted in the Army, graduated Officer Candidate School, and became a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne out of Ft Bragg. It was during this time that 1st Lt. Verstegen reunited with his Little Chute sweetheart, Eunice Ebben. They were joined in marriage on June 22, 1952 at St. John's Catholic Church in Little chute. They had recently celebrated 71 years of commitment to each other. Eunice preceded him in death by 24 days; they were meant to be together.

When the children started coming, Roger left the army life, attended UW-Oshkosh and worked at various banks and credit unions, spending much of his career at Marathon Credit Union in Neenah. Roger was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, a talented speaker, and a sought after reader for many services. Roger was a continuous volunteer and steadfast advocate for many disadvantaged people throughout his life.

Roger lovingly helped raise eight children: Ron (Sue), Mary (Ralph), Dave (Ellen), Tom (Kim), Jean (Bob) Kress, Donna (Fairon) Brown, Kathy (Randy) Pallo, and Christie (Joe) Demler. He was also blessed with 31 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Roger is further survived by a brother Bob (Terri) Verstegen, numerous cherished in-laws, and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 519 Knapp St, on Saturday November 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM officiated by Father Louis Golamari. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:00 AM until mass.
