Carl S Lambie, 83, of Freedom, Wisconsin, peacefully passed away on October 21, 2023 at Country Villa Assisted Living in Freedom, WI.

He was born April 13, 1940 in Appleton, Wisconsin, to the late Stuart and Edna (Haas) Lambie. His first 5 years were on his parent’s farm near Dale, Wisconsin, and then his parents moved to a farm near Freedom. He graduated from Freedom High School in 1958, and then attended vocational school to become an electrician. After two years he then joined the Air Force (1963-1967) serving at Dyess Air Force Base where he was trained in Atlas Missile Mechanics. After four years in the service Carl came back home and worked as a proud member of the International Electrical Workers Union, Local 577, for approximately 20 years.

In 1972, Carl inherited his beloved family farm, where he resided until November of 2021.

When Carl was in grade school he encountered a barely working “player piano” that he became fascinated with. Eventually he learned how they worked and brought numerous models back to life. This interest later became a second career post-retirement, duplicating and creating music rolls for player pianos and organs. Self taught with computer technology, he built his own perforator “copy machine” to reproduce original piano and organ rolls. His membership in the Automatic Musical Instrument Collector’s Association (AMICA) gave him contact with people all over the world with many becoming customers.

Carl truly enjoyed music, player pianos, organs, motorcycles, reading, his computer, and watching films.

He is survived by his cousin Joan (Haas) Schauer as well as other cousins and friends from near and far. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his treasured friend Charlie Tidwell who shared his musical interest in piano restoration.

A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 12:00 pm at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St., Appleton, WI 54911 followed by full military honors. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park in Appleton, WI. Family and friends may greet family on Thursday, Oct. 26th from 10:00 am until the time of services at the funeral home.

Carl’s family & friends wish to thank the very caring staff of Country Villa in Freedom as well as Moments Hospice. The family also thanks Jerry & Janet Stephani, Marilyn & Fred Van Handel as well as Joe Rubick for their care and support of Carl these past two years.
