On March 15, 2023, after a long battle with many health issues, Dennis R. Coenen Sr., 77, of Hortonville, WI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born in Appleton on August 9, 1945, the son of the late Elmer and Verena (Vanden Bogart) Coenen who raised him in Darboy. Dennis was united in marriage to Donna Sprangers on January 17, 1967 at St. Mary's in Menasha and she made him the proud father of ten children. They eventually moved to Stephensville, where they raised their children. He began his career as a Millwright with Local 1056 in 1968, working for Hennes, later known as AZCO and retired in 2002 after 34 years.

In his younger years, Dennis enjoyed hobby farming, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling and gardening. There are many memories of the road trips he took with his buddies drinking shorties. He also enjoyed cooking and baking, and there was nothing better than his Sunday breakfast after church. He took great joy in time spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Dennis began a legacy of craftsmanship that carried on through many of his children and grandchildren. He also passed down his quick wit and sense of humor. He took great pride in raising strong minded, independent children.

Dennis is survived by his children, Doug (Lisa) and their children, Amanda, Trevor and Mason (Hortonville), Dale (Amy) and their children, Bryce and Hayden (Hortonville), Dawn (Todd) Lueddecke and their children, Amanda (Eric) Ludwig and Taylor (Fremont), Dennis Jr. (Tammy) and their children, Lauren and Jarret (Hortonville), Dean (special friend, Kris) and his children, Matt, Rachel and Sierra (Greenville), Dyan (Mark) Vogel and their child, Gracie (Brillion), David (Maren) and their children, Bailey and Brady (Waupaca), Dana (Jake) Schiedermayer and their children, Ethan, Mackenzie, Caleb, Garrett, Everett and Benedict (Hortonville), Danielle (Chad) Presteen and their children, Audrey and Brinley (Black Creek)and Darla (Scott) Presteen and their children, Mary, Timothy and Michael (Shiocton); great-grandchildren, Evelyn, Seth and Zachary Ludwig; siblings, Carol (John) Mueller, Patricia (Gene) Bloedorn, Myra (Jim) Verhagen, Lorna (Pat) Weyenberg, Phyllis (Lyle) Schmidt; brothers and sisters-in-law, Carol Coenen, Judy (Marty) Papesh, Barb Warning, Raymond Jr. (Jodi) Sprangers, Patricia Sprangers and his special friend, Gerri Janusheske.

Dennis was preceded in death by his loving wife, Donna; brother, Donald; brother in-law, David Warning; parents and father and mother in-law.

A special thanks for the kindness and generosity of his neighbors and the many nurses who cared for him, especially Andrea.

The family would like to extend sincere appreciation to Dana and Jake for their selfless act of kindness in caring for Dad these past few years.

The Funeral Mass for Dennis will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Stephensville on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. with Fr. Phil Schoofs officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until noon. Burial will be at a later date.
