Thomas Leo Schroder, Kaukauna, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday March 13, 2023 at St. Paul’s Elder Care. He was born April 26, 1945 in Appleton, WI to the late Raymond and Mable (Zimmerman-Schleicher-Porter) Schroder. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Katherine Ann Huss, on May 29, 1971 at Whiting Community Baptist Church. They shared 46 years together prior to Kathy’s passing in 2018.
Tom served in the United States Army as a radio, telephone and telegraph repairer while stationed in Germany. Following his honorary discharge from the service, Tom went to work for U.S. Paper Mills (Sonoco) where he continued to work for nearly 40 years. He was a lifelong member of Whiting Community Baptist Church, where he was very active, serving on the governing body for over 50 years. He made many lifelong friends as an active Jaycee member.
Tom was proud of his daughters, and was very involved with their activities. He was an active member of the band parents, organizing the concession stands and chaperoning trips. His family hosted foreign exchange students, maintaining contact with many of them over the years, and traveled to Finland to visit one family. Tom loved his family above all and was overjoyed when his grandchildren were born. He shared a very special bond with them, even when they wouldn’t let him win at dominos. He was always willing to help his son-in-law with house projects and mentored him along the way.
Tom had a passion for genealogy and loved to travel and learn about the history of our country and his family. He also loved camping and fishing with family and friends at Ada Lake and spending time at the church Tree Farm. He enjoyed working in his shop and creating special furniture keepsakes for his family. Tom frequently had amazing vegetable gardens and enjoyed canning his produce and sharing the bounty with others.
Surviving Tom are his daughters, Susan Schroder, Kaukauna, and Tina (Nick) Voigt, Combined Locks; grandchildren Abigail and Collin Voigt; sister Karen Balthazor-Harris; sisters-in-law Pat (Jon) Zeininger and Barb Huss; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends Paul and Jane Thiel and their family. Tom loved the companionship of his dogs and will be missed by his buddy Blaze.
In addition to his wife and parents, Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law: Cleon and Marian Huss; brothers Kenneth, Edward, and Daniel, and brothers-in-law Ron Balthazor, George Harris, and Paul Huss.
