Margaret Ruth Spice passed away peacefully on Monday, March 13, 2023, at Apple Creek Place in Appleton, WI where she had been a resident for the past three and a half years.

Margaret was born on July 15, 1937, to Ernest and Ruth (Schroeder) Sommer. She grew up on the family farm near Zittau (Putzig), where she learned her fantastic cooking and gardening skills. Margaret had a special fondness for outdoor flowers, particularly delphiniums. She also adored playing the piano, as well as singing in the Trinity Choir and participating in the Altar Guild. In addition to her musical talents, she was a huge Green Bay Packer Fan and Milwaukee Brewers fan. In 1955 she graduated from New London High School.

Margaret married Carl Kalbus with whom she had three children: Brenda (Kevin), Greg, and Brian (Sharrey). She later married Larry Spice with whom she had one son John (Arletta). Margaret spent many years working at Look Drug & Pharmacy in downtown Kaukauna, later working at the Shopko Pharmacy in Appleton.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, in-laws Sharon McCollum, Helen (Henry) Meier, Art Sommer, Clarence (Doris) Sommer, Elverna (Wilbur) Drews, Louise (Delvin) Spiegelberg, Walter Sommer, sister Velma in infancy, and special friend Irene Luehring.

She is survived by her brother Eldor (Pat) Sommer; her grandchildren Eric (Jenn), Michael (Kayla), David (Ashley), Ashley (Josh), and Holly (Jack); great-grandchildren Christian, Carter, Waylon, and Weston, as well as many nieces and nephews. Margaret is further survived her in laws LaVerne Sommer, Jim (Linda) Spice, Jan (Tom) Lindemuth, Ellen (Dave) Kiefer, Barb Spice, Peg (Don) Gerrits, Becky Spice, and Bill McCollum.

The family would like to thank Pastor Mau, Apple Creek Place and Bristol Hospice for their care and support.

In lieu of flowers the family has set up a memorial in Margaret's name.
The Christian Funeral Service for Margaret will be held Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 804 Grignon St. at 11:00 AM with Pastor Stanley Draper officiating. A visitation will take place at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Margaret will be laid to rest at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery on Green Bay Road at 1:30 PM.
