Obituary Jerome "Jerry" W Van Der Steen

Obituary
Jerome “Jerry” W. Van Der Steen, 82, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 22, 2022. Jerry was born on October 27, 1939 to Harry and Mary (Romensko) Van Der Steen in Kaukauna. On February 11, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carol Mathis at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kaukauna. He retired from Miller Electric after 38 years. After retirement he worked at member services at the dog track and was a custodian at St. Mary and St. Aloysius Catholic Churches. He loved golfing, playing cards, and dominos. Jerry also enjoyed traveling, trips to Vegas, fishing up north with Mark and holidays with his family. Jerry loved the Packers, he attended the ice bowl with his brother-in-law Bill. He loved the Brewers and went to a game once a year at Miller Park. Trips to Green Lake with Bill and Dick were always treasured. Jerry was a member of St Vincent DePaul Society, Knights of Columbus, a charter member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and attended St. Mary Catholic Church where he was an active member and an usher.

Jerry is survived by his wife Carol, four children; Mark (fiancé April Emerich) Van Der Steen, Jill (Dennis) Geiger, Lisa (fiancé Alan Conger) Schreiber, and June (Jim) Minten, six grandchildren; Jason (Andrea) Van Der Steen, Alex Geiger, Abby and Emily Schreiber, Michael (Shaina) Minten, and Nicole (Dylan) Kaleyta, 6 great grandchildren; Ava, Jacob, Haddie, Elizabeth, Noah, and Luke, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Mary Joan Bryers, Nancy Ross, Dorothy (Dick) Beschta, and Mike (Dawn) Mathis, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, a great granddaughter, Miah Van Der Steen, his mother-in-law and father-in-law; Theresa and Peter Mathis, siblings; Cliff (Diane) Van Der Steen, Eugene (Angie) Van Der Steen, and Tom Van Der Steen, nieces and nephews; Dan and Tom Van Der Steen, Shirley, Eddie and Jeremy Mathis, brothers-in-law; Clifford Mathis, Bill Bryers, and Byron Ross.

The funeral liturgy will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Katharine Drexel Parish, St. Mary Church, 119 W. 7th St., Kaukauna. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the mass at church. Interment will be in the St. Mary Cemetery. For online condolences please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.
