"Mari A, Root, 65, longtime resident of Howard, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, January 1, 2014. She was born April 5, 1948, in Manitowoc.
On October 5, 1993, Mari married Marty Root. She had been employed in various jobs in retail. Mari was an active member of Heartland Church and enjoyed the Bible studies there and the people who participated in them. She loved crossword and Sudoku puzzels, gardening, animals, being outdoors, and being with her family.
Mari was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother and will be missed by her husband, Marty; two children and their spouses, Michael and Julie Pienta, Luxemburg; and Nina and Aaron Penning, Rochester, MN; her grandchildren, Zoey Penning, Lucy and Ariauna Pienta;and her mother, Helen Van Vonderen.
She was preceded in death by her father, Norbert Van Vonderen.
Friends may call at Heartland Church, 3340 Lineville Rd., from Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Scott Werlein officiating.
