Audrey M. Driessen March 5, 1936 ~ August 22, 2022 (age 86)

Audrey M. Driessen passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, at the age of 86, at her home in Little Chute on Monday, August 22, 2022. She was born on March 5, 1936 to Bernard and Mary Hurst. Audrey married the love of her life, Gerald Driessen, on May 26, 1958, at St John’s in Little Chute. Thus began their 64 years as husband and wife.

Audrey was a fun, happy, and positive woman who enjoyed the little things in life; playing cards, taking care of her loved ones, hosting family gatherings full of traditions, making her special puppy chow for their grandkids, and of course, enjoying a good Manhattan. Being around family and providing a nurturing environment was something she particularly excelled at. Her family always felt her love.

Audrey grew up a woman of faith as was demonstrated through her actions and dedications to the Church throughout her entire life. She instilled these values in her children and grandchildren. She served as a lector/commentator for many years and proudly supported Catholic education.

Audrey spent more than 50 years as a nurse in Little Chute, most of those spent working with Dr. Van. She was patient, competent and outstanding in this profession. It seemed as if she knew everyone in Little Chute, treating them all with love and care as if they were her own family. The countless hours of sweat, care and love she gave to others cannot be measured. A nursing scholarship was created in her name to support future health care professionals.

She was also the biggest supporter of everyone and everything she believed in. Audrey was truly one of those special people who had a selfless heart of gold and found happiness when seeing others succeed.

We couldn’t tell if Audrey and Jerry were big time sports fans or just so proud and loving of all 15 of their grandchildren. There was rarely a week that passed by without both of them attending a basketball, baseball, volleyball, dance, soccer, softball, concert, or recital event for their grandchildren.

Audrey is survived by many loving members of her family, including: her husband Jerry; children: Kelly Gloudemans, Sue (Todd) Schommer, Eric (Renee) Driessen and Lori (Paul) Schuh; her 15 grandchildren: Adam, Luke, James and Stacy (fiancé Joshua) Gloudemans, Becky (Joe) Marquardt, Stuart, Kurt (Jacqueline) and Lisa Schommer, Alyssa (Luke) Nygaard, Jacob (Kaitlyn) and Ryan Driessen, Jarrod (Nicole) Alex (special friend Dana), Sydnie (special friend Quinn) and Paige Schuh; her 9 great grandchildren: Brett, Chase, Ellie, Chloe, Cruise, London, Tatum, Isaac and Louis. She is also survived by her sister Jeanie and brother-in-law Tom Vandehey, and sister-in-law Gloria Nienhaus.

Audrey was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark; father and mother in-law, John and Hattie Driessen; numerous brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 411 Vandenbroek Street, Little Chute with Father Ron Belitz officiating. Visitation will begin prior to Mass at the church beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery. For online condolences, please visit www.verkuilenfh.com.

The Driessen family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all friends and family of Jerry and Audrey. Each of you has had a positive impact and helped Audrey live a happy and fulfilling life. You all meant so much to her.
