Dennis C. Olson, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 11, 2022. He passed comfortably in his home surrounded by family. Dennis was born on October 11, 1951, to Ogden and Alice (Cumber) Olson in Shawano, WI. He was a veteran who served in the US Army and was united in marriage to Ruth Verstegen on September 8, 1989.

Dennis was an active member in his church who was always looking for a chance to share his faith and he could often be found helping with the Voice of Compassion rummage sale to benefit Haiti. He enjoyed working in the outdoors, hosting campfires and fishing-always in pursuit of “Walter.” Road trips, making people laugh, helping his son Chris with various projects and date nights with his splendid wife were all favorite past times. He was well known for being the family’s on call “Uber” driver, one-liners and “special day” poems. Dennis had many titles over the years, including “adorable”, but the title he loved most was “Grandpa”. Grandkids and going out for breakfast were two of his favorite things and out of that, Grandpa’s Breakfast Club was born. His family is grateful for all the fond memories to carry them through until they see him again in heaven.

Dennis is survived by his wife Ruth, 8 children; Jon Olson, Chris (Stacy) Olson, Michelle (Greg) Paustian, Kim (Matt) Van Thiel, Colleen (Roy) Van Zeeland, Keith (Pam) Verstegen, Kevin (Wendy) Verstegen and Jessie (Garret) Pelischek, 24 grandchildren; Nikki and Jamie Olson, Anthony, Nicholas, and Joshua Paustian, Matthew (Deanna) Van Thiel, Kyra (Andrew) Glodoski, Madeline Van Thiel, Roy Jr. (Hannah) Van Zeeland, Mason, Sondra, Joe and Isaac Van Zeeland, Ben (Beckie) Verstegen, Keaton, Trent, Lily and Morgan Verstegen, Ashton, River and Skye Verstegen, Sam, Jacob and Daniel Pelischek, 11 great grandchildren; Emma, Addie, Caleb, Callie, Annabelle, Max, Ezra, Ava, Jaclyn, Lauren, Brielle, his step-father Ernest Fredrickson, siblings; Bob Olson, Harold (Helen) Olson, Sherry (Jerry) Kruckeberg, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Melissa Olson, and his sister Kathy Patterson.

The funeral service for Dennis will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. at the Verkuilen Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, N3972 Columbia Ave, Freedom. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
