    • Hildegard "Hillie" G. Kersten, age 82, of Readfield, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. On July 4, 1929, she was born in a log cabin in the Town of Belle Plaine, WI, to the late Edgar J. and Esther(Ehmke)Zwieg. Hillie was a graduate of Shawano High School, class of 1947. She was united in marriage to Duane Kersten on May 8, 1948 at her family home in Belle Plaine. The couple resided in Appleton. Following Duane's death on November 5, 1979, she moved to Readfield. Hillie worked as a dietician at Americana Nursing Home in Appleton. She worked at Tee Off Enterprise, in Readfield/ New London, until she retired at the age of 76. Hillie was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Appleton. She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, gardening, canning, reading, as well as playing cards and dominoes.

      Hillie is survived by two daughters, Linda Donnermeyer, Appleton; and Cindy(Jeff)Bigalke, Readfield; two sons, Kenneth(Karen)Kersten, Kaukauna; and Kevin Kersten, Appleton. Hillie is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Anita Higgins, Clintonville; and Delores (Russel) Piehl, Oshkosh; two brothers-in-law , James(Sandy)Gutt, Bowler; and Bob(Eunice) Higgins, Embarrass; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

      Hillie was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.

      Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E. Glendale Ave, Appleton, WI. Rev. James Plackner will officiate. Inurnment will be held in Highland Memorial Park in Appleton at a later date. Visitation will be held on Thursday, at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Friday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of service.

      Hillie's family would like to thank the staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital for all the wonderful care she received.
