- STANLEY -- Anne Telisak VanZutphen, 94, of 200 S. Broadway Street, Stanley, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at her residence in Stanley.
She was born Oct. 23, 1907, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Paul and Julia (Barna) Telisak. She moved to the Huron area with her family in 1908. She graduated from Chippewa Falls High School in 1926 and UW-Eau Claire. She was a school teacher for 46 years, 23 of which were in rural settings including seven of which were in one room schools, consisting of White Pine School, Tremblay School, Loew School, Maplewood School, Matott School and 16 years as principal of Huron State Grade School. The next 23 years were spent in the Stanley-Boyd School System in which she started the Driver's Education Program in 1950.
Anne married Archie VanZutphen on July 19, 1954, in Fremont, Ohio. They resided in Stanley where he owned and operated Van's Salvage Store until his death on Feb. 4, 1980.
She was a member of the local, state and national retired teacher's associations. She was a lifetime member of St. John's Orthodox Church in Huron.
Survivors include two sisters, Tillie Almberg of Stanley and Pauline Hipke of Chandler, Ariz.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary and Julia; and two brothers, John and Alexander.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at St. John's the Baptist Orthodox Church, Huron, town of Colburn, Chippewa County, with Fr. Ted Wojcik officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Plombon Funeral Home in Stanley.
