- Eugene "Gene" Pluff, 69 years, Town of Jacksonport, died peacefully Saturday evening (December 28, 2013) at his home with family at his side.
He was born November 17, 1944 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Melvin and Edith (Brungraber) Pluff. Gene graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1963. In his early years he worked at the Ephraim Standard Gas Station, as well as commercial fished out of Baileys Harbor on the Ranger gill net boat with Jimmy Kaus "JK from the Port". Since the early 80s and currently, Gene has faithfully worked at Itasca Systems in Egg Harbor as a machinist, custom fabricating machines for industry.
On May 8, 1999 he married Jane M. Basten in Ephraim. He enjoyed deer hunting, taking rides with Brad to look for those deer at Brad's deer stand, helping Bryon with his countless questions on his ever changing car projects especially the rat rods, and teaching Kim all the needed knowledge of home owning. Gene also enjoyed taking his "rides" to go and visit with family and friends. He loved his family especially his grandchildren, they were very special to him. Recently he had built them a custom play house, the last project before cancer overtook his energy. Gene was a simple, no nonsense man, who enjoyed sharing his talents, building and fixing things for all who needed a hand.
Those family left behind are his loving wife, Jane; children, Bryon (Linda) of Baileys Harbor, Brad (Jodi) of Sturgeon Bay, Kim (Luis) of Green Bay, five grandchildren, Andraya "Pandy", Chloe "Chloe-Doughy", Alexa, Corey, Arianna; two brothers, Bob (Sharon) Pluff of Baileys Harbor, Joe (Kathy) Pluff of Aurora, WI; sister, Darlene Simon of Jacksonport; his father, Melvin Pluff of Baileys Harbor; step brothers and sisters; in-laws, Norb (Betty) Basten of Suring; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Julie (Jeff) Vandevelde, Joan (Al) Pieschek, Mark (Katie) Basten all of Green Bay; many dear nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Edith Pluff; step mother, Dorothy; and his brother-in-law, Terry Simon.
Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening (January 3, 2014) at Huehns Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Groth officiating. Friends may call Friday from 3:00 to the time of services at 7:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home.
