- RACINE Ruth M. (nee: Mutchie) Piette, 77, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, January 12, 2000.
Ruth was born in Racine on March 31, 1922, daughter of the late Jacob and Loretta (nee: Olley) Mutchie and was a lifelong Racine resident. On November 24, 1948 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, she was united in marriage to Edward Piette. She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, having served in many of the parish ministries and committees including the church choir, member and past President of the Daughters of Isabella, co-chaired the 125th anniversary celebration of the parish, and volunteered for numerous bingo games. Ruth and Ed were named "Honorary Irish Persons of the Year" in 1998 by the congregation. She also served as past President of the Milwaukee Area Council of Catholic Women, and charter member of the Ladies of Columbus Society. Her pastimes included stitchery, crocheting, stained glass, dartball, golfing, traveling, but most of all spending time with her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed.
Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Edward; her three children, Joanna R. (Greg) Rappl of Denver Colorado, Julie (Larry) Kostroski of Green Bay, and Tom (Sandra) Piette of Green Bay; her seven grandchildren, Tim, Lisa and Paul Rappl, Ryan and Kristy Kostroski, Sarah Christenson, Melissa (Todd) Bowman; her two sisters, Helen Staples of Racine, Florence (Curly) Gutsmiedel of Mauston; brothers-in-law, Donald (Yetty) Piette of Racine, Joe Schiestle of Racine; sisters-in-law, Betty Mauer of Racine, Dorothy Lees of Racine, Marge (Hank) Goeden of Tarpon Springs, Florida; and nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, on Friday, January 14, 2000, at 7 p.m. with Reverend Marty Pabel and Reverend Paul A. Daniels concelebrating, Sister Carol Kottowitz and Deacon Russell Missureli assisting. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Friday from 5:30 p.m. until Mass time. Memorials to St. Patrick's Catholic Church have been suggested by the family.
