- Marie A. Schmalz, 88, of Appleton, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 surrounded by her family at Rennes Health & Rehab. Marie was born on May 12, 1926 in Gillett to the late Gust and Esther Montie. She was a graduate of Tipler High School.
On February 4, 1954 she was united in marriage to the love of her life Gerald Schmalz. Marie was a cook at various restaurants and super clubs in the area. She enjoyed cooking, playing bingo, gardening, bird watching, and was an avid Packer fan.
Marie is survived by her children; G. Dennis (Lois) Schmalz, Greg Schmalz, Wayne (Becky) Schmalz, and Lori (Carl) Barkow, her grandchildren; Matt (Jodi) Schmalz, Jamye (Don) Winker, Racheal Kroll, Derek Schmalz, Jason (Dawn) Farr, Heather (Jim) Langton, Tiffany, Kelsey, and Amber Schmalz, Ryan (Amy) Woldt, and Sara Woldt, and16 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Ruth Freye, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gerald, daughter Amy Brewe, brothers Harold (Beulah) Montie and Robert (Juanita) Montie, and by her brother-in-law William Freye.
A memorial service will be held TODAY, December 23, 2014 at 6:00 PM at Valley Funeral Home 2211 N. Richmond St. Appleton, with Fr. James Lucas officiating. Relatives and friends may visit with the family TODAY, December 23, 2014 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the FUNERAL HOME.
