    • Lloyd Gordon McCraw, 91, retired engineer, Oklahoma City Air Materiel Area (OCAMA), Tinker Air Force Base, died on July 12, 2010. Born in 1918 to Earl and Rhama McCraw in Jefferson County, he grew up in the county seat, Waurika. McCraw enrolled in the University of Oklahoma (OU) in 1936 and entered the U.S. Army Reserve Officers Training Corps in 1939. The Army interrupted his studies in July 1940 and deployed him to the U.S. Armory, Springfield, Massachusetts, as a Second Lieutenant, Ordnance. He became a production manager of M1 Garand rifles, the first semi-automatic rifle in the world to become standard issue for infantry. McCraw remained at the Armory throughout World War II, attaining the rank of Major. During the Korean War, the Army called him back to active duty at the Armory. Ultimately, he would devote thirty years to active and reserve duty, and retire as a Colonel, Ordnance Corps, U.S. Army Reserves. After World War II, McCraw returned to OU and graduated with a B.S. in General Engineering in 1947. That same year, he married Cosette, a native of Massachusetts. They were married for fifty-two years and had six children, seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. In 1952, the McCraws moved to Norman. McCraw worked with Jonco Aircraft Corporation in Shawnee until federal civil service recruited him in 1955. That recruitment led to eighteen years of engineering positions in OCAMA, Tinker Air Force Base, including Chief, Industrial Engineering Division, Directorate of Maintenance (1967-1971), and Chief, Industrial Laboratories Division, Directorate of Maintenance (1971-1973). He retired from federal civil service in 1973. In retirement, McCraw and his wife enjoyed travel and a small business. They also volunteered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church and instructed ceramics at the Norman Senior Citizen Center. McCraw's parents and wife preceded him in death; an extensive family survives him. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 20, 2010, St. Charles Borromeo Chapel located in the St. Joseph Catholic Church's Family Life Center, 421 East Acres Street, Norman. Interment will take place at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
