- Betty was born in Oregon City, Oregon, to Albert and Nellie Mautz. She grew up on a farm in Molalla, graduating from Molalla High School at the age of 16.
Betty started work at the First National Bank of Portland in the WWII Ration Stamp Department. She rose to be the Secretary to the Cashier of the Bank. While at the bank, Betty met her future husband, Wayne Van Dyke, a teller at the time. They married May 1st, 1954. They moved to various cities in Oregon following Waynes career. Betty became a professional homemaker when their two daughters came along.
Betty enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing and reading. She was a Camp Fire Girl leader and she was instrumental in founding the Friends of the Library in Mt Angel. Betty also worked for 4B Farms in the office. In retired life, Betty enjoyed traveling in the Western US, including Alaska.
Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Wayne; daughters: Lisa (Mark) and Brenda (Rick); and two grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Wed., Sept. 23, 2015 at St. Marys Catholic Churchs Parish Hall in Mt. Angel.
Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel.
