    • Irma A. Hermsen, age 90, of Lamar died Tuesday April 24, 2012 at Augusta, KS after a short illness.

      Irma was born November 8, 1921, at Linwood, Nebraska, to John F. and Anna Macholan. On June 18, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in David City, she married Walter F. Hermsen. In 1951, after living in David City, Nebraska and South Bend, Indiana for several years, they moved to Barton County, where they farmed and raised cattle for more than 50 years. Irma was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Altar Society and had been a member of the Barton County Extension Club.

      Irma and Walter had celebrated 63 years together before his death August 8, 2009.

      Survivors include a son, Walter F. "Cork" Hermsen II and his wife Yolanda, of Lamar; a daughter, Karen McKee and her husband Randy, of Augusta, Kansas; three grandchildren, Yvette Gordon, Brendan McKee, and Cameron McKee.

      Irma was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bernard Macholan and Irvin Macholan.

      A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 am Friday, April 27th at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends immediately following a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Lamar.

      Contributions are suggested to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund or St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
