Verkuilen, Dorothy Evelyn
Dorothy Evelyn Verkuilen, 90, Little Chute, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 21, 1917, in Burk Falls, Ontario, Canada, daughter of William and Dora (Perry) Lyhnam. Dorothy married Gordon Verkuilen July 6, 1940, at Blessed Sacrament Church, in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada, and he preceded her in death November 3, 2006. Dorothy helped her husband, Gordy, operate Hammen's Bar in Little Chute. She was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. She was also a member of the Fox Valley Golf Course where she enjoyed golfing. Dorothy was a former member of the Jacob Coppus American Legion Auxiliary, Little Chute. She enjoyed golfing at Fox Valley Golf Course, going for walks, shopping, playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her family. Dorothy loved to make soldiers, cookies and pies to share with her family and friends. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she made it very special for her family. Dorothy was a beautiful, loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Dorothy is survived by her four children: Robin (Tom) Wipperfurth, Minocqua; Robert (Jo Ann) Verkuilen, Little Chute; Richard Verkuilen, Menasha; Ronald (Colleen "Clem") Verkuilen, Little Chute; 12 grandchildren: Brian Wipperfurth, Madison and special friend, Fritz Jung; Brad (Jody) Wipperfurth, Minocqua; Todd (Denise) Wipperfurth, Minocqua; Mark (Teresa) Verkuilen, Appleton; Karen Williams, Appleton, and fiance, Jim Desens; Stacy (Kevin) Doucette, Shiocton; Nicole (Eric) Ruffles, Greeley, CO; Jodie Verkuilen, Greeley, CO; Richelle (Jordan) Grady, Kaukauna; Melissa (Dave) Schmidt, Appleton; Brent (Dee) Verkuilen, Appleton; Tyler (Maria) Verkuilen, Appleton; 11 great-grandchildren; brother- and sister-in-law: Jim (Ethel) Lyhnam, Ont., Canada; in-laws: Reva Ovens, Sault Ste Marie, Ontario, Canada; Jim (Lois) Verkuilen, Appleton; Kathryn Verkuilen, Green Bay; numerous nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dora Lyhnam, father- and mother-in-law John and Lena (Verstegen) Verkuilen, brother, Jack Lynham, and sisters, Connie (Elmer) Cripps and Betty (Pat) Yanni, Gladys (Gilbert) Friday, in-laws Pearl (Romeo) Breton, William Ovens, Mary Lyhnam, Bill Verkuilen.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church with Fr. David Funk O.F.M. Cap. officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the church from 2 p.m. Monday until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
Dorothy's family wishes to thank Parkside Care Center and staff for their loving care.
