- Genevieve "Gen" M. Janssen, 92, of Cadott passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2012, at the Chippewa Manor Nursing Home in Chippewa Falls with family at her side.
Gen was born on June 29, 1919, in Whalan, MN, the daughter of Arthur and Elvira (Anderson) Lodahl. She grew up in the Town of Colburn and graduated from Cornell High School as Valedictorian in 1937. She continued her education at Burr's Business College in Boulder, CO.
Genevieve Lodahl married James P. Janssen at St. Josephs Catholic church in Boyd, WI, on June 11, 1940. They lived and farmed in the Town of Anson until 1969. Her lifelong passion was to help others, which included Chippewa County Social Services where she worked with families for 9 1/2 years, then Gen and Jim formed the Anson 4-H club, her untiring involvement with St. Maries circle at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Jim Falls and later with St. Bernadettes circle at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott. She found great enjoyment spending time with family and friends.
Genevieve is survived by her children, Richard (Martha) Janssen of Blue Spring, MO, Sharon (Steve) Gilles of Chippewa Falls and Larry (Sally) Janssen of Cornell, Ginny (Bill Scheuerell) Janssen of Madison, WI, and Mary (Doug) Vezina of Hudson, WI; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Sister, Amy Shilts of Calmar, IA; sister-in-law, Jean Janssen of Eau Claire, WI. Also survived by nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband, James Janssen; and an infant sister.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cadott with Father William P. Felix officiating. Interment will take place at the St. Rose Cemetery, Town of Sigel.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012, with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Prayer Service at the Leiser Funeral Home in Cadott.
