    • Anne K. Glasner, (87) Appleton, died on July 7, 2017 at home of complications from COPD and emphysema. Mrs. Glasner was born on January 9, 1930, in Niles, Michigan, the second daughter of the late Mary Jane (Kneeshaw) and Frederick B. Kompass . She was preceded in death by her sister, Jane Dewar Kompass. Anne attended local public schools and upon high school graduation in1947, she attended Lawrence College, in Appleton WI. She graduated in June of 1951, winning the annual Hicks Poetry Prize. She married Jack Boggs Glasner the following year and began the first of many jobs working in radio, television, advertising and retailing in Appleton, Chicago and Rockford, IL and McMinnville, TN. In 1958, Mrs. Glasner's daughter Anne Catherine (Kate) was born in Appleton; in 1960 Suzanne Mary was born, also in Appleton. A divorce was finalized in 1963, and a second marriage to Dr. Robert O'Boyle in 1968, ending in 1972 . It was in Appleton that Mrs. Glasner became interested in theater through Attic Theatre where she performed, designed and costumed as well as holding administrative offices. At one time she was costumer-designer for Lawrence University, Makaroff's Ballet Theater, Appleton West and also freelanced in local radio advertising. Her theater interests led to founding Children's Theater, a group performing for children. With the late Betty Hollinger, she wrote 4 plays for youth audiences, 2 of which won national awards. The pair also wrote and produced many "Breakfast with Santa" shows for local department stores. After returning to LU to earn teaching credentials, Mrs. Glasner taught theater and English for 13 years at middle and high school levels in Neenah, WI. Upon retirement she volunteered in several venues but found her heart at the Third Grade at Foster School where she worked with young readers. She is survived by Kate (Anne Catherine) Glasner , son-in-law Dan Egan, granddaughter Catherine Egan of New York City; Suzy FitzSimmons, son-in-law Mark, grandsons , Nathan and Sam of Eagle Lake, MN, nieces Eleanor Jane Klopp (Roland McKee), Lorane, OR, Elizabeth (Betsy) Klopp, Naples, FLA, and nephew Jonathan Klopp, Baltimore, MD. Almost nieces Terry Vlossak (Chuck Frase), Hartford, WI and Meg Bayless (John Bayless), Sun Prarie, WI. Third sister to her daughters and dear friend of her heart, Rita Van Groll. The Glasner, FitzSimmons and Egan families are profoundly grateful to Melanie Olson, RN. Mrs. Glasner was blessed with a curious mind, loyal friends and patient daughters. Memorials in Anne's name could be directed to Foster School, Attic Theatre and the Appleton Public Library. A green burial in Verona, WI has been planned. A memorial gathering will be announced in the future. Two mantras were hers: the unexamined life is not worth living, and you only get to keep what you give away. Pax.
