- Jennie M. Saler, 98, of Niagara, WI passed away Monday, November 4, 2013, at Maryhill Manor in Niagara. She was born April 1, 1915, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late John and Caroline (Stanich) Folley.
Following the death of her father, when she was three years old, her mother had to go to work; Jennie came to live with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. William Folley in Iron Mountain, Mich. She graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1933. Following graduation she worked in the office of Cochran Freight Lines.
Jennie married Raymond Saler on August 28, 1937, at St. Mary & St. Joseph Catholic Church in Iron Mountain. Whey they moved to Niagara, she became a member of St. Anthony Church in Niagara.
She did many volunteer jobs in her lifetime. Jennie was a Cub Scout leader while her sons were growing up, Parent Teacher group, member of the Umbrella group which was instrumental in obtaining the Niagara Multi-purpose building. She also served as the secretary and treasurer of the Senior Citizens Ltd., Womans Club and served as president, Nutrition Board of Niagara, Maryhill Manor Auxiliary, member of the SACCW Niagara Kitchen Bank. Jennie danced with the Country Kickers, golfed at Oak Crest Club and senior bowling league. She was an avid golfer and bowler.
Jennie is survived by two sons: John Saler, Marinette, WI and Robert (Cheryl) Saler, Norway, MI; six grandchildren, John (Tracy) Saler, Kristy Saler, Kevin (Amy) Smits, Kerry (Matt) Lang, Dana (Chris) Obenauer and Aja (Mason) Morris; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Raymond, she was preceded in death by her daughter Judith Smits and son-in-law Ken Smits.
Visitation will be Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Fr. Matt Settle will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.
