- Ruth Anne Helf, 89, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2011, at home. She was born on July 27, 1921, in Anderson, IN to Herman and Janie (Koeniger) Foehl. She married Donald Helf in Anderson, IN on April 6, 1944, and they just celebrated 67 years together. They went to Virginia right after their wedding but Ruth then returned to Indiana where she worked in a factory making radios while Don served in France as an Army Medic during WWII. Upon Don's discharge from the Army after the war ended, they returned to North Tonawanda NY. Ruth was a homemaker most of her life. She was a wonderful cook and could prepare a meal on a moment's notice and always had room for overnight guests. They lived in several homes in New York, New Jersey, Michigan and finally settling in Neenah, WI after Don's retirement from General Motors. They built a new home in Neenah where they lived until October 2009, when they moved to Touchmark Assisted Living in Appleton, WI.
Ruth is survived by husband, Don, and three daughters: Jan (Dan) Curtin, Mary Jo (Mike) Baseman, and Brenda (Keith) Krisher; eight grandchildren: Brett (Stephanie) and Jason (Lori) Kemp, Jon (Shanda), Jeremy, Joel (Mariah) and Suzanne Baseman, Jessica (Andy) Pamenter and Alison (Jeff) Whitehead, along with seven great -grandchildren: Kyle, Katie, Arianna, Maddison, Kailey, Ayla and Braedan.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Howard Foth, and her sister Jeanette Foehl.
Ruth's family will greet visitors at Valley Funeral Home on Wednesday May 11, 2011 from 4 - 7 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 7. Burial will be Highland Memorial Park in Appleton WI.
