    • Josephine (Desten) DeWitt Sousek, age 99, died Tuesday evening, November 9, 2004, at Parkside Care Center. She was born January 7, 1905, in Appleton and married Edward DeWitt. Together they established and ran the DeWitt Dairy. She was a hard working, loving mother and grandmother who loved to play cards. When Ed retired, they moved to Pickerel Lake until his death two years later. Josephine later married Wencel Sousek and enjoyed sharing her life with him, playing cards with their mutual friends and driving to Tennessee to visit her son, Ken and his wife Sue and their family. She also loved to Sew and crochet, making many beautiful things. Whenever possible, she enjoyed Pickerel Lake visits and most of all fishing. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Mary Jane “Sue” DeWitt; her two former daughters-in-law, Margot Rudolph, who cared for her lovingly and helped extensively, and Shirley DeWitt, who also visited while Josephine was in a home; a sister-in-law, LaVerne Desten, Appleton; Eugene and Angie Sousek, Appleton; Almita Stallard, Illinois. Also eight grandchildren, Jeff and Linda Dewitt, Kathy and Ray Cope, Connie and Malcolm Clingan, Cheri and Mark Sitter, all of Tennessee; Dean and Ann DeWitt, Wauwatosa; Steven and Theresa DeWitt, Appleton; Mark and Linda DeWitt, Greenville; Gregory DeWitt, Appleton; 18 great grandchildren, Lonnie and Tiffany, Ben and Amy, Lauren, Tucker, Steven and Mark Cope, Jeffrey II and Lee DeWitt, Ryan Clingan and Jennifer Clingan, all of Tennessee; Kinsey, Laura, Collette, Daniel, Kristy and Cody DeWitt and Amanda and Austin Stammers, all of Appleton. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Anna and Elmer Desten, her two husbands, Edward DeWitt and Wencel Sousek, her two sons, Kenneth and Milton DeWitt and three brothers, Elmer, Roy and Lloyd Desten. The funeral liturgy for Josephine will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 13, 2004, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 East Fremont Street, with Father Norm Krutzik officiating. Burial will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 9:30 am, until the time of the mass. A memorial fund is being established.
