    • RACINE - James L. 'Pops' Chernouski, 63, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 8, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center. He was born in Racine May 5, 1939, son of Joseph and Evelyn (nee: Garrett) Chernouski. Jim was employed by Western Publishing Company for over 20 years, retiring in 1994. On August 27, 1983, in Racine, he was united in marriage to RuthAnn Vanderhoef. Jim was a member of Saint Rita's Catholic Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed trips to the Wisconsin Dells. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. Surviving are his wife, RuthAnn; five children, Debra (Joseph) Lassa of Mosinee, Wis., Brenda (Ronald) Behnke of Winchester, Wis., Linda (Perry) O'Brien of Racine, Sandra (Martin) Shaff of Coral Springs, Fla., John and Brook Chernouski of Racine; ten grandchildren, Richard, Samuel and Meegan Behnke, Eric (Karyn), Bryan and Heather Behnke, Nicole O'Brien, Anthony and Chelsea Shaff, Caleb Chernouski; a great-granddaughter, Mariah Behnke; his mother, Evelyn Chernouski of Winchester, Wis.; a brother, Joseph Chernouski of Winchester; two sisters, Margaret Ingeman and Kathy Wolski, both of Winchester, Wis.; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willis and Ruth Vanderhoef; step-children, Anne Marie Vanderhoef, Jorn Petersen; step-grandson, Jannick; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph, and a son, James Anthony. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 12, 2002, at 6 p.m. at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 4339 Douglas Avenue, with Reverend Joseph G. Stobba OSA officiating. Interment will be held at Winchester Cemetery, Winchester, Wis. Relatives and friends may meet with the family on Tuesday at the church at 5 p.m. until time of Mass.
