    • Mary (Charapata) Broehm was born on January 30, 1914 in Beaver, Wisconsin to the late Joe and Cecelia (Hylok) Charapata.

She lived in Beaver and attended the Flowernook School for eight years and then graduated from Marinette High School in 1929 with honors in forensics. Mary fulfilled her childhood dream of becoming a teacher when she graduated from Oshkosh Normal School in 1931. She taught for two years at Weber School in Crivitz, WI.

In 1932, Mary married Alfred Broehm and she taught school in Greenville for six years. From Appleton, Mary and Al moved to Medina where they purchased their first Broehm's Dept. Store. After two years in Medina, they purchased Lund's Store in Winneconne where they had their second Broehm's Dept. Store. Mary was very active in Winneconne where she was the president of the Civic League and president of the Altar Society of St. Mary Catholic Church. She was the program-coordinator of the Ladies Elks of Oshkosh, treasurer of Catholic Ladies of the Diocese of Green Bay, member of the Retired Teachers of Winnebago County, the Twentieth Century of Oshkosh, and the Polish American Society. Mary loved playing bridge with her special group of friends, and was a golf player with the Lake Shore Ladies' Golf Association, and the Westhaven Ladies' Golf Club. Mary and Alfred traveled extensively to Poland and took courses at Yolinski University. Their travels also took them to Germany, Russia, Romania, Italy, and Bulgaria.

Mary is survived by five daughters, Betty (Neil) Slick, Barbara (Don) Foth, Beverly (Ted) Wicinsky, Bernie (Dale) Smith, and Bonnie (Jon) Jacobsen. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and 11 sisters and brothers.

In 1994, Alfred preceded Mary in death.
