- Ann Protogere, age 81, of Appleton, was called to eternal life with her loving family by her side on Monday, November 21, 2016. Ann was born in Fond du Lac on July 1, 1935, to the late Nicholas and Grace (Gramatika) Carmanidis. On June 22, 1958, she was united in marriage to George Protogere at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Fond du Lac. The couple enjoyed 40 years together before George's passing in 1999. Ann was a very faith-filled woman - born, baptized, and raised Greek Orthodox and very proud of her heritage. Her family will tell you that she was the best Greek cook in the world. She loved traveling - especially her trips to Greece, Mexico, Las Vegas, Florida and up north, taking walks, doing crosswords, and attending car shows with her husband George - but most of all, Ann enjoyed spending time spoiling her grandchildren.
Ann will be missed by her three daughters: Francesca (Michael) Diedrick, Appleton, and their children Jennifer (Ryan) Morrison and their daughter Olivia; Stephanie (Adam) Tornow; Angela (Fiance Cody Hoffman); and Benjamin; Barbara (Dan) Sprangers, Kaukauna; and Christine (Bruce) Wyngaard, Appleton, and their children Justin, Lindsey, and Courtney (special friend Lisandro Humphrey); son George (Pamela) Protogere, Appleton, and their son Nicholas; brothers: Alex (Winifred) Caramanidis, Rosendale; and Gus Caramanidis, Oshkosh. Ann is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, husband George Protogere, grandson Brandon Protogere, sisters: Helen Klein and Mary Hendricks, and brothers: Michael and Anist Carmanidis.
Private services were held.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Compassus Hospice and the staff at Kimberly Assisted Living for the compassionate care shown to Ann.
Mom and Yaya, thanks for giving us life and love and laughter. Thank you also for all the beautiful times together. You were a wonderful mother and an amazing grandmother, always taking the time to make each of us feel so very loved and special. You will never be forgotten. We love you…now and forever.
