- Patricia Dianne De Bruin, age 47, died August 26, 2013 from complications of Type 1 Diabetes that was diagnosed when she was nine years old. Patti was born March 15, 1966 to Jim and Carol (Shebrack) Gasper in Appleton. She graduated from Appleton High School West in 1984 and continued her education at FVTC in the accounting program. On October 23, 2003, she married Dennis De Bruin. She worked at various offices until her illness prevented her from working. She volunteered at several places in the Fox Valley when her health permitted. When Patti was healthy, she enjoyed life to the fullest playing pool at Pete's, traveling to Mexico and Colorado, dressing up for Halloween, and enjoying time with her friends. Patti was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI. She was a very faithful, devoted, non-judgmental, forgiving person and had several lifelong friends. She struggled with complications from her illness for many years, but she would not allow it to defeat her and lived much longer than expected. In the end, her illness finally won, but she is now at peace with Jesus. Survivors include her husband Dennis, her stepson, Dennis L. De Bruin, her mother, Carol Shelbrack, sisters; Julie Gasper and Lisa (James) Reider, her half-brother, Edward Schabo, her father in law, Orvell De Bruin, sisters in law; Elizabeth Birling and Debra (Keith) Rosin and brothers in law; David (Mary) De Bruin and Steve De Bruin. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Patti was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard (Dick) Earll, in 1986, her father James Gasper in 1991, her mother in law Rose Marye De Bruin in 2012 brother in law Tom Birling and sister in law Sharon De Bruin. Funeral services for Patti will be held at 1:00PM, Sunday, September 1, 2013 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 3009 N. Meade St, Appleton with the Rev. Kurt Hoffman Visitation will be held Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond Street, Appleton, from 4:00PM until 7:00PM, with a prayer service at 7:00PM, and again on Sunday, from 12:00PM, until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.Patti's mother Carol and sisters, Julie and Lisa want to give a sincere and heartfelt Thank You to Dennis for his dedication and profound love to Patti.
