- Herbert R. De Ruyter, 91, De Pere, died Tuesday, August 2, 2016 due to pneumonia. He was born July 11, 1925 a son of the late John and Mary (Heezen) De Ruyter. On August 24, 1944 he was united in marriage to Rose Mary Smith at St. Boniface Church in De Pere.
Herb was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, a past President of the NFO, Hobart Fire Department, and was a committeeman for ASF. He was a farmer his entire life and enjoyed watching his crops grow but above all he took great pride in his gardens. He enjoyed playing cards with the Van Gheem family, talking about his bingo games at Birch Creek, and recently enjoyed playing Picachu.
He is survived by his children: James De Ruyter, Richard (Sue) De Ruyter, Paul (Sandy) De Ruyter, Diane (James) Smurawa, Jeff (Marsha) De Ruyter, Mary Kay (Michael) Kangas, Roy (Rhonda) De Ruyter, and Lu Ann (Darrell) Boulanger; 17 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and members of Rose Mary's family. He was preceded in death by his wife Rose Mary; his daughter Kathleen; siblings: Ursula De Ruyter, Frances De Ruyter, Alberta (Raymond) Van Gheem, Donald (Helen) De Ruyter, John (Doris) De Ruyter, Ernest (Alma) De Ruyter, Verna (Sherman) Kussow, and Beatrice (Robert) Olson; as well as members of Rose Mary's family.
Family and friends may visit on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at RYAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 305 N. Tenth St, De Pere from 3:00 to 7:00 pm with a Rosary to end the night at 7:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday after 10:00 am at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, 1307 Lourdes Ave, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem. officiating.
