- Rachael Meeuwsen, 90, De Pere, passed away early Friday morning, July 23, 2010.
She was born May 15, 1920, to the late Jacob and Mary (Baeten) Hockers. On Oct. 28, 1943, she married Donald Meeuwsen at St. Boniface Catholic Church.
Rachael's main roles in life were wife, mother and grandmother.
She loved to bake, sew, play cards and spend time with her family.
A lifetime member of St. Boniface Church, now Our Lady of Lourdes, Rachael was a longtime member and past President of the Christian Mothers as well as a member of the Catholic Foresters.
She is survived by her eight children, Donna and Larry Babiarz, De Pere; Margaret and Horace Cochran, Burr Ridge, Ill.; Nancy and Adrian Bennett, De Pere; Tom and Betsy Meeuwsen, De Pere; Mary and Dennis Leiterman, De Pere; Mike and Kate Meeuwsen, New Franken; Tim and Dell Meeuwsen, Greenville; and Steve and Lois Meeuwsen, De Pere. She is further survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Omer Meeuwsen and John Gucciardi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rachael was preceded in death by Don, her husband of 63 years. She was further preceded in death by her nine siblings, Fr. Dominic Hockers, O. Praem., Ray Hockers, Clarence "Putch" Hockers, Jim Hockers, Erma Heimerl, Elsie Robertson, Viola Baeten, Gladys Jacobs and Blanche Tollefson-Nighorn.
Friends may call at the Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a parish prayer service at 4 p.m.
Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Family, corner of Lourdes Ave. and Suburban Dr., De Pere, until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Tim Shillcox, O. Praem., and Fr. David Baeten officiating.
