- Harold J. Schumacher, 88, Little Chute, passed away peacefully with family by his side on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Harold was born July 6, 1922, in the Town of Vandenbroek, son of John and Hattie (Williamsen) Schumacher. He attended St. John Grade School and graduated from St. John High School.
On Sept. 10, 1947, Harold was united in marriage to Germaine Huiting, his wife of 63 years, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church. Harold proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II where he was stationed in the South Pacific. For 43 years, Harold was employed by Kimberly-Clark. He was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Parish.
In addition to his wife, Germaine, he is also survived by two daughters, Joan (Eugene) Vander Zanden, Kaukauna; and Barb Hietpas, Oklahoma City; four grandsons, Greg (Jodi) Hietpas and Glenn (Shanon) Hietpas, Oklahoma City; James (Rebecca) Vander Zanden, Madison; and Daniel (fiancee, Kari Nabbefeld) Vander Zanden, Milwaukee; two stepgrandchildren, David and Jeremy; four great-grandchildren, Gage, Karly, Cece and Julianna; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Allie and Abby; five brothers, Maurice (Florence) Schumacher, Appleton; Eugene (Eleanor) Schumacher, Little Chute; Marv (Leona) Schumacher, Rhinelander; John R. (Katie) Schumacher, Appleton; and James (Donna) Schumacher, Kimberly; a sister, Rita Hoffman, Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marion Schumacher, Neenah; Theresa Schumacher, Menasha; Marianne (Verl) Parker, Darboy; and Paul Huiting, Calif.; extended family, Gary and Judy Schumacher; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Harold was also preceded in death by four brothers, Peter (Betty) Schumacher, Raymond and Clarence Schumacher, Joseph (Mary) Schumacher, and Mildred (Robert) Huss; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ted and Sophia (Hietpas) Huiting; brothers-in-law, Ted (Muriel) Huiting and Ken Hoffman; and two nephews, John and Steve Schumacher.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, 323 S. Pine St., Little Chute, with Fr. James Hablewitz officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the Mass. The Legion prayer and salute, performed by members of the Jacob Coppus Post #258, will be held in the gathering space before the Mass.
The family of Harold would like to thank all those that came to visit and cared for them in these last days.
