    • Betty Jane Smits, 88, De Pere, passed away on January 14, 2015. She was born on January 20, 1926 to Frank and Ethel (Lenss) Mikle.

      Betty worked as a buyer for HC Prange Co. (now Younkers).

      Betty is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and F. Peter Van Duyse, Green Bay, and their daughters, Melissa (Jamie) Virnig, De Forest, and Sarah (Jeremy) Kinney, Germany; her son and daughter-in-law, John and Paula Smits, De Pere, and their sons, Michael (Christy) Smits, De Pere, Matthew (Melissa) Smits, Appleton; great-grandson, Sam Virnig and step great granddaughter, Hannah Kinney; and sister-in-law, Joyce Hendricks.

      She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Smits; brother and sister, Norbert and Florence; and sisters and brothers-in-law: Marvin and Dorothy Smits, Clarence and Leone Smits, Sister M. Clarella Smits, Ed and Florence Moensens, Ed and Mary Ann Anderson, Jerry Hendricks, and Betty Steber.

      Family and friends may visit on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at Cotter Funeral Home, 860 N. Webster Ave., De Pere. There will be sharing of memories at 6:30 p.m. Online condolences may be expressed at www.cotterfuneralhome.com.

      The family would like to thank the hospital staff at Aurora Baycare for their excellent care and compassion, also to the caregivers at Renaissance Assisted Living where she resided for the past two years.
