      Trettin, James A. "Jim"
James A. "Jim" Trettin, of Appleton, age 66, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, following an accident while vacationing in New Orleans. Jim was born in Appleton on March 8, 1943, first child to the late Arthur and Jane (Bernhardt) Trettin. He graduated at Appleton High School with the class of 1961. On March 7, 1964, Jim was united in marriage with Barbara Brown, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Menasha. The couple just celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. Jim was a funeral director, receiving his license on September 15, 1965. He took great pride in his profession, and was at his absolute best when people put their trust in him to help them through the difficult loss of their loved ones — right up to his retirement on January 1 of this year. He was also a former owner and operator with his wife, Barb, of Chilton Flowers and Greenhouses from 1981 to 1988.
Jim was a member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Wisconsin Funeral Directors Association, the Fox River Valley Funeral Directors Association, the Appleton Elks Lodge #337, former member of the Appleton Masonic Temple and the Knight of Columbus.
He loved spending time on his boat and being around his "Party Doll Marina Family" in Fremont. He was an avid Wisconsin Badgers fan and enjoyed going to Badgers basketball and football games with his dear friends. His biggest joy was spending time with his family — especially his grandchildren, with whom he kept up special family traditions chopping down Christmas trees, adventurous spring car rides, and his favorite holiday of all — Halloween. Jim had a one of a kind personality, and anyone who has ever had the opportunity to meet him, will never forget his sense of humor.
Jim will be sadly missed by his loving wife Barb, Appleton; his two daughters: Amy (Jeff) Ganzel, Appleton, and their children Mikeal Boll, and Katie, Alex and Paige; Shelley "Weazie" (fiance Scott Mueller), and children Todd, University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Abbigail Norton; his son, Tim (fiancee Robin Sylvester), Appleton, and children Anna and Willie Trettin, and Haley Sylvester; his two sisters: Lynne Lenius, Menasha; and Lauri (Dr. Donn) Harris, Neenah; his brother, Thomas Trettin, Appleton; his aunt, Rosemary Trettin, Appleton; his very favorite mother-in-law, Marion Brown, Neenah; his sisters-in-law: Diane (Roger) Voster, Menasha; and Lori (James) Pettis, Neenah; brother-in-law, William (Deb) Brown, Neenah. He was further survived by many nieces, nephews, very special friends, and his good pal and companion Elvis the cat.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law, William "Bud" Brown.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with Father Robert Karuhn officiating. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, March 27, and directly at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A Parish Prayer Service will take place 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. A memorial fund is being established.
Dad, you put up a great fight. We appreciate the fact that you gave us a chance to say good bye. You taught us all very much, and touched our hearts in a very special place. You will never be forgotten.
      Thanks Dad!
Jim, you left something good behind,
      Love, Barb.
