Little Chute
Age 68, died at 1:15 a.m. Monday, December 26, 1983. He was born September 22, 1915 in Little Chute. Mr. Hammen was employed by Giddings & Lewis for 33 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church and the American Legion Post No. 258. He had served in the US Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Vander Velden Hammen; two daughters and a son in-law, Judy Lambries; Jenny and Mark De. Groot, all of Little Chute; three sons and two daughters in-law, David and Cyndie Hammen, Jupiter, Florida; Dennis Hammen, Kaukauna; Gary and Sue Hammen, Little Chute; three sisters and brothers in-law, Sylvester and Millie Frank, Appleton; Herb and Clara Eggert, Appleton; Clayton and Ceil Fleming, Kaukauna; a step son, Eugene and Diane Koehnke, Kaukauna; two half brothers, John and Shirley Jansen, Appleton; Al and Mary Jansen, Little Chute; two half sisters, Harriet and Don Steger, Kaukauna; Carol Mitchler, Kaukauna; five sisters in-law, Delores Coenen, Little Chute; Germaine Weyenberg, Darboy; Mary Ann Porto, Kimberly; Joyce Dieda, Irving, Californa; Christine Hammen, Little Chute; six brothers in-law, Harold Hinkens, Manitowoc; Gordon Hinkens, Kimberly; Joe Hinkens, Cunny Hinkens, and Marvin Vander Velden, all of Little Chute; Dennis Vander Velden, Kimberly; his father and mother in-law, George and Agnes Vander Velden, Little Chute; 12 grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and a great granddaughter, Nina DeValk.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gladys in 1969; a grandson, Cole Hammen in 1978; his parents, Cornelius and Elizabeth Hammen; two brothers, Richard and Joe [Cully] and a sister, Helen Kurrash.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Radetski officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 5 until 9 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. There will be an American Legion visitation at 7 p.m. Tuesday and a parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. There will be military rites immediately following the funeral mass.
