VanDaalwyk, James M.
James M. VanDaalwyk, age 80, of Chilton, died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton. He was born July 31, 1929, in Kimberly, son of the late Martin & Mary (Kroiss) VanDaalwyk. Jim was proud to have served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was a crane operator who helped in the construction of landing strips and airfields. Following his discharge from the military, he married Cecilia H. Gregoire on August 20, 1953, at St. John Catholic Church in St. John. The couple then farmed together in the Town of Chilton until retirement. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge, the Chilton VFW, the Stockbridge American Legion, St. John Branch of the Catholic Knights, and was a former member of the Calumet County Farm Bureau where he also served as a member of the board. Throughout his life, Jim enjoyed traveling with Cecilia, and the couple had been spending their winters living in Florida. He also took great pleasure in the time he could spend with his grandchildren, hunting, fishing, and sailing; his family, however, will always remember him as constantly inventing, fixing, or making something better.
Survivors include his wife, Cecilia; his step-mother, Marie VanDaalwyk; his children: Linda (Roger) Meyers, Kenneth (Lisa) VanDaalwyk of MO, Cheryl (Douglas) Koffarnus, Joseph (Cindy) VanDaalwyk; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother: Mary Jane (Robert) Phillips of CA, Eugene (Mary Jane) VanDaalwyk, Shirley (Max) VanGrinsvin; a brothers-in-law: Urban (Dorothea) Gregoire; five sisters-in-law: Verble Gregoire of IL, Ruth Gehl, Elaine Gregoire, Lorraine (Joe) Geiger, and Marian Gregoire of CA. Jim is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Elaine Popp.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Stockbridge with the Rev. Philip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wieting Family Funeral Home (411 W.
