- Patrick W. "Rick" Vandenberg, Little Chute, age 68, died Monday January 5, 2015 at Cherry Meadows. He was born in Neenah on October 23, 1946 to the late Isadore and Louise (Blohm) Vandenberg. Rick was a talented high school athlete and had the opportunity to play semi-pro baseball. His father advised him against it, telling him to get a real job because there was no money to be made playing ball! His love for athletics remained through his entire life.
Rick served in the U.S. Navy for two tours during the Vietnam War on the USS Chipola. His home port was Pearl Harbor.
Rick married Sandy Schinke on April 4, 1970 in Chicago, IL. He retired from U.S. Venture (Design Air) in 2013. Rick enjoyed racing, following the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and trips to the casino.
Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sandy; and son Todd (Samantha) of Appleton. He was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first grandchild in two weeks. He is further survived by his sisters: Joan (Kevin) Deno and Janet (Bill) Meyer; sisters and brothers-in-law: Vicki Vandenberg, Ernie (Rosie) Schinke and Gary (Margo) Schinke; good friend Neal Isbel; dog Buddy; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Rick was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law: Ernest and Marjorie (Zuleger) Schinke; brothers: Eugene and Mike Vandenberg; sister-in-law: Barbara (Blaine) DeWitt; nephew Timmy; and aunt Tootie Zuleger.
Visitation will be held Saturday January 10, 2015 at O'CONNELL FUNERAL HOME (1776 E. Main St. Little Chute) beginning at 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral at 11:00 a.m. Deacon George Schraufnagel will officiate. Committal Highland Memorial Park. A memorial is being established.
