- James A. DeGroot, 86, died Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Colony Oaks Care Center. Jim was born in Little Chute on April 19, 1925, to the late Frank and Anna (Haberman) DeGroot.
He is survived by his wife, Marion C. DeGroot, Appleton; 7 daughters: Janet Feavel, Anchorage, Alaska, Dorothy Clark, Appleton, Patricia (Kerry) Pfeifer, Waunakee, Margaret DeGroot, Clintonville, Joan (Ronald) LeMieux, Appleton, Ann (David) Waller, Appleton, and Mary Kay DeGroot, Appleton; 4 sons: Charles (Suzanne) DeGroot, Appleton, Gregory (Joan) DeGroot, Appleton, Timothy (Judy) DeGroot, East Troy, and David DeGroot, Appleton; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a brother, Francis (Lois) DeGroot, Appleton; 2 sisters: Leona Speel, Appleton and Florence Duca, Pewaukee; a brother in law, James (Betty) Wolter, Appleton; a sister in law, Catherine (William) Weber, Appleton. He is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mary Beth DeGroot; 2 sisters: Lucille Kolosso and Sister Madeline DeGroot; a brother, Daniel DeGroot; and 3 brothers in law: Lawrence Speel, Michael Kolosso, and Darol Duca.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Friday, September 9, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St., Appleton, with Father James Leary OFM Cap., officiating. Friends may visit directly at the church on Friday from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Interment will take place at Holy Angels Catholic Cemetery, Darboy. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
