  • Notes
    • He was with Ringling Brothers, Barnum and Bailey, primarily as a trapeze artist, but also had a side show act as a strongman, was called "Strong-Jaw" because he used to pick up a sofa in his teeth! He knew Buffalo Bill. He was in love with a young woman, who also was a trapezist, who fell to her death -- after which he in deep grief left the circus and came up to Appleton, wher he eventually married his cousin. Since your family and you have a horse that you like, you will be interessted to know that your great grandpa, loved horses. He wanted to have his pictures of his horses buried with him. He once stopped a man from beating a horse which was trying to pull a wagon through deep mud. He rode his horse to the nunnery in which his sister was a nun but wanted to escape, put a ladder to the wall, climbed up to the window of the cell she shared with another nun, waited til this other nun had some beer and fell asleep, then rescued his sister through the window and rode off with her into the night!
