Age 81, died Monday, October 23, 1995 at Parkside Care Center. She was born on December 22, 1913 in Stockbridge, the daughter of the late John and Anna (Scherer) Kersten. Bertha enjoyed bowling and sewing. She was a Brownie leader for many years. She loved to play cards with her grandchildren. She was employed at Zwicker Knitting Mill for 20 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She is survived by her children: Roberta and Francis Slomska, Weyauwega; David Bloch, Racine; Richard and Betty Bloch, Kaukauna; Rita and Charles Linzmeier, Menasha; John and Judy Bloch, St. Petersburg, Florida; Anna and James Beach, Stockbridge. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Dorothy Van Dyke, Kaukauna; Margaret and Orville Spaulding, Menasha; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Bloch, Kaukauna. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Aloy Bloch: and her second husband, Joe Effa; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Ed and Jane Kersten and Paul and Joan Kersten; a sister and a brother-in-law: Ceil and Clem Nabbefeld; two grandchildren: Robert Slomska and Cory A_ Smith. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 26, 1995 at the Fargo Funeral Home in Kaukauna with Father Paul Paider officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Kaukauna.
