- Arnold P. Menting, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Menting, was born May 30, 1864, in Grand Chute,
Outagamie, about three miles east of Appleton, Wisconsin, where his parents resided on a small farm. At
the age of seven, his parents left the farm and moved to the village of Little Chute, about two miles east of
his birth place. Arnold attended the Village school for some time, after which he attended school in
Chilton, Wisconsin, where he stayed with Rev. Father VerBerk, being a servant to the Father.
At the age of fifteen, Arnold with mother and the rest of the family moved to Town 30, Range 12, where his
father and brother, John, had already resided for two years. Arnold worked for his father at the railroad for
a few years after which he did blacksmith work in the Village of Phlox.
On October 19, 1887, Arnold married Minnie Janssen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Janssen, who
were living on a farm near Phlox. After their marriage, Arnold and Minnie took charge of a hotel in the
village. After leaVing the hotel, they rented the house owned by his father which formerly was the dwelling
of Ephraim St. Louis, his wife, and Father St. Louis, Arnold's folks then had a meat market. In 1998,
Arnold was foreman in a sawmill. In 1899, he bought a farm from his father, which was the old
homestead.
Mr. and Mrs. Arnold P. Menting had ten children. The first one, Mary, died in infancy. The others were
William, Albert, Frank, Colletta, Johanna, Blanche, Tony, Rose and George. Tony died at the age of six
years. Johanna went to Milwaukee Convent and became a Sister and was named Sister Bavo. Some
years later she died and was buried in the Phlox Cemetery.
Arnold after living on the farm kept the meat market in the Village of Phlox for sometime. In 1919, he had
the garage built in the village Lot 27, Block A. He sold his farm to his son, Frank, and moved to the village
and conducted the garage with his son, George.
Arnold died August 11, 1940, at the age of 77 years. Minnie, Mrs. Arnold Menting, who was born October
21, 1965, died on February 4,1946, at the ageof 81 years.

Vandenbroek --Arnold Menting, 76, died at Phlox Monday morning after a lingering illness. He was born in
Little Chute May 30, 1864.
Burial will take place at 9 o'clock Wednesday morning from St. Joseph Church at Phlox.
Survivors are the widow; four sons. Albert, Frank and George Menting, Phlox, and William Menting of
Antigo; three daughters, Mrs Blanche Hash of Waukesha; Mrs. Joseph Hiensen, and Mrs. Charley
Waldzogel of Phlox, three brothers, John of Antigo; and Herman and Henry Menting of Phlox; two sisters
Mrs. Henry Hersant of Antigo, and Mrs Albert Van Gompel of the town of Vandenbroek; 38 grandchildren,
four great grandchildren.
