Weyenberg, Roman A. "Romie" Roman A. "Romie" Weyenberg, age 70, passed away peacefully, Sunday, August 6, 2006, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, with his loving wife and family by his side. Romie was born on May 30, 1936, in the Town of VandenBroek to Henry and Florence (Bloy) Weyenberg. Romie was a member of Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna. He served in the military as a Naval Reservist. Romie made many close friends in his 40 years in the paper industry at Asten Forming Fabrics (Wisconsin Wire Works), retiring in 1995. After some years in plant production, he found his niche in sales where he worked building many relationships.

Many will remember the fun get-togethers over the years he and Shirley hosted. Romie had a natural gift for making friends everywhere he went with his engaging sense of humor. He had a great love of cars, fishing, boating, golf and playing spider solitaire on the computer. He was very active in the Stuart Corvette Club in Florida. Romie cherished spending time with his children and grandchildren playing poker and swimming in the pool at his home in Florida. He also thoroughly enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events.

Survivors include his wife of six years, Jean (Van Dyke-Hooyman); his father, Henry Weyenberg; his mother-in-law, Rosella Van Dyke; his seven children, Ken (Wendy) Weyenberg and grandchildren: Ken Jr. (Michelle), Andy, Sam and Amanda; Ted (Cindy) Weyenberg; Roman Weyenberg Jr. and grandchild Jamie; Sandy (Jim) VandenOever and grandchildren: Amy (Ryan), Alicia, and Ashley; Gary Weyenberg; Terry Cotter and grandchildren: Jimmy, Rachel, Ally and Max; and Sally (Fred) Holzwarth and grandchildren, Elisabeth and Ben, step-grandchildren, Kelly (Wes) Schwartz and Katie; three step-children: Mike (Ellen) Hooyman and step-grandchildren: Amy, Katie, Kim and Kelsey; Steve (Mary) Hooyman and step-grandchildren, Kelly and Ben; and Tom (Yvonne) Hooyman and step-grandchildren, April and Jimmy; two great-grandchildren, McKenna and Maysie Weyenberg; his sisters-in-law: Kathy Miller, Molly (Don) Sakai, Karen (Gerald) Dollevoet; and his brother-in-law, Jim (Mary Jo) Van Dyke.

Romie was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Shirley (Stadler); his mother, Florence Weyenberg; and his brother-in-law, Richard Miller.

The Funeral Mass will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Friends may call Thursday after 2 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. directly at church. Committal Highland Memorial.

The family would like to thank Dr. Goggins and Dr. Gunther, their staff at the Oncology Department at Affinity Medical Center and ICU at St. Elizabeth Hospital. A memorial fund has been established in Romie's name.
