Greiner, Carl "Stoop" Carl "Stoop" Greiner, 80, Freedom, died Saturday, July 28, 2007, with his family by his side at Colony Oaks Care Center following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born June 30, 1927, son of the late Carl and Frances (Liesch) Greiner. At age 14, Carl worked with his father driving milk truck for his father's cheese factory. He continued until he went on his own shortly before he married Rosemary Bowers at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom, on July 12, 1949. He was Town Constable for many years, was instrumental in starting the Freedom Volunteer Fire Dept. (where he served as President) and was also instrumental in starting the Freedom Trail Blazers. Stoop also served on the Freedom Planning Committee and was on the Board of the Sanitary Dept. Carl was very caring about the town he grew up in. He enjoyed his cabin at Shingle Mill Lodge, snowmobiling, boating (he water skied until he was age 73), camping, fishing, hunting and was an avid Packers fan (he was a season ticket holder since the beginning) and Brewer fan. Stoop also enjoyed 4 Wheeling and playing Oldtime Pumpkin Ball. He loved spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Rosemary (Bowers); their eight children, Ann (Terry) Kloehn, Seymour and their family, Kurt (special friend Katrina), Kevin, Lori (Terry), Todd (fiancee, Theresa), Lynn Greiner and son, Cody, Debbie Greiner, "Bear" ( "Kizzy") Greiner and their family, Colleen (Mark), Craig (Bonnie), Christa (Jim), Tim Greiner (special friend Ethel), Mike (Shari) Greiner and their family, Nick (special friend, Kristen), Aren and Heather Greiner, Laurie (Jerry) Tank and their family, Jerimiah, Justin, Lee, Bob (Pam), Holly and Kelly (Craig), Lisa (Greg) Manteuffel and their family, Brent and Ben all of Freedom; several great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his family, Bill Gonnering, Bill (Ila), Ronny (Vonny), Bob "Beaver" (Vionne), Jim (Sharon) and "like a brother", Amby Dickrell. Stoop is also survived by his wife's family, Joan Bowers, Dan (Elaine) Bowers, Tom Broeren, Helen Dachelet, Vernon (Joann) Bowers, Glen (Judy) Bowers; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, John and Anna (Arnoldussen) Bowers; a granddaughter, Mary Ann; a sister, Dorothy Gonnering; sister-in-law, Joyce Broeren; brothers-in-law, Harvey Bowers and Bill Dachelet.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Boettcher Family Funeral Home, 2401 Fieldcrest Dr., Kaukauna, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and again Wednesday directly at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in his name.
The family would like to thank Coloy Oaks Care Center for the compassionate care and concern Carl and his family received.
