    • Van Asten, Barbara (Verhagen) 2003 Appleton Post Crescent dated 12/17/2003; Van Asten, Barbara R., “Bob”, Little Chute Age 85, died Tuesday, December 16, 2003 at St. Paul Home, Kaukauna. She was born August 27, 1918 in Kaukauna; daughter of Michael and Catherine (Dercks) Verhagen. Barbara married Urban P. Van Asten, September 14, 1937 and he preceded her in death January 8, 1987. Mrs. Van Asten was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute and the St. Elizabeth Society. She was also a member of the Golden Agers and the “Cousins Club”. Barbara read her prayer book every day and loved the Christmas season. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Van Asten is survived by her children: Jim (Audrey) Van Asten, Kaukauna; Linda (Dan) Gloudemans, Little Chute; Judy (Gary) Valentyne, Kimberly; Greg (Becky) Van Asten, Little Chute; a son-in-law, Jerry Fox, Suring; 14 grandchildren: Bob (Mary), Mike (Brenda), Tracy (Al), Scott (Kim), Rick (Michelle), Rob (Michelle), Todd (Amber), Jenny (Troy), Shelly (Brian), Chad, Beth, Taresa, Tony, Paige, Tom (Libbie), Tim (Tina), Brian; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Mike Verhagen, Greenville; a sister, Jeanette Van Deurzen, Little Chute; three sisters-in-law: Pat Verhagen, Florida; Lexie and Irene Van Asten, both of Little Chute; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Fox; brothers and sisters: Rosella (Henry) Felauer, Josephine (Hubert) George, Wilma (Nick) Vande Hey, Dorothy (Rich) Wolf, Florence (Vick) Stoege, Jim (Dot) Verhagen, Rita (Bob) Wegand, Don Verhagen, Elizabeth Verhagen; brothers and sisters-in-law: Melvin, Maurice and Cy (Joyce) Van Asten, Bern-adette (Elmer) Huss, Mathilda (Ambrose) Weigman. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2003 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the church from 1:00 p.m. Thursday until the time of the mass. A memorial for Alzheimer’s research has been established.
