Vander Velden, Elizabeth "Betty" (Scherer) Vander Velden, 74, Little Chute, passed away at Colony Oaks Care Center on Saturday, May 6, 2006. She was born in Philadelphia, Penn., on March 11, 1932, daughter of the late Irvin and Elizabeth (Fritchie) Scherer. On March 23, 1953, she married her husband of 39 years, Richard "Dick" Vander Velden. Betty worked at the Community Blood Center for many years and volunteered her time at Holy Spirit Parish in Kimberly. She enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and spending time with her friends and family.
Betty is survived by her children, Susan (Gerald) Van Grinsven, Kimberly; Bruce (Sue) Vander Velden, Darboy; Bob Vander Velden, Appleton; Ann (David) Schuh, Combined Locks; grandchildren, Catherine Ann (Shannon) Schmidt, Jessica (Scott) Dufrane, Michael Van Grinsven, Alan (Alissa) Vander Velden, Adam Vander Velden, Aaron Vander Velden, Autumn and April Vander Velden, Matthew and Maggie Schuh; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew and Christopher Schmidt, Nikki and Bekki Dufrane, and Madisen Elizabeth Van Grinsven, Gavin Vander Velden, and Sofie Vander Velden; her twin brother, Bruce Scherer, Appleton; brother-in-law, Peter (Debbie) Vander Velden, Appleton; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; a brother, Edward Scherer; and her aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral liturgy will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2006, at HOLY SPIRIT PARISH, Kimberly Campus, 600 East Kimberly Ave., Kimberly, with Fr. Tom Pomeroy officiating. Friends will be received at the church from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Colony Oaks Care Center for their compassionate care of Betty.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund in Betty's name is being established.
