Coopman, Vernon J. Vernon J. Coopman, Menasha, age 85, passed away Sunday morning January 28, 2007, at Oakridge Gardens. He was born October 28, 1921, the son of the late Joseph and Maude (Sheprow) Coopman. Vernon was united in marriage to Lorraine Kern on January 12, 1946, and they just celebrated 61 years together. Vernone was a 1941 graduate of St. Mary's Menasha. He worked for Central Paper Company for 44 years and retired in 1986. He served his country during WWII as a member of the Army Signal Corps, attached to the 7th Air Force and was stationed in the Phillippines, and other South Pacific locations. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1945.
Vernone was a member of the VFW and belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church in Menasha. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play hockey and soccer and following the Packers, Brewers and the Badgers.
Surviving are his wife, Lorraine; his son, Gary (Bonnie); four grandchildren: Thomas (Jennifer) Coopman, Daniel (Julia) Coopman, Jeff Coopman, Sally Coopman, a great-grandchild, Sylvia Coopman. Vernon is also survived by his sisters: Evelyn Dietz, Lorraine (Robert) Patterson, Dorothy Loper; his sisters-in-law: Dorothy Coopman, Bernice Schmidt, Rita (Leonad) Vanden Wyngaard, Joyce (William) Frank, Donna (Cornelius) Van Hout, and a brother-in-law, Nick (Marilyn) Kern, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Oliver and Katherine, Richard and Evelyn, and Ben Coopman; sisters: Ada Coopman and Marion Scherz, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Dolores and Harley Reinholz, Joann and Jerry Jost, Robert Schmidt, Warren Loper and Donna Kern.
The funeral service for Vernon will be Wednesday, January 31, 2007, at 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary Cath-olic Church, 528 Second Street, Men-asha, with Father Larry Canavera officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery. Friends and family will be received at the church on Wednesday morning, from 10:30 a.m. until the hour of the funeral mass. Military rites will be performed following the service at the church by American Legion William Verhagen Post #60 of Kimberly. A memorial is being established in his name.
