- Lenz, Mary M.
Mary M. Lenz, age 75, died on Aug. 15, 2004, after 10 difficult years of health problems. She was born on Feb. 21, 1929, in Little Chute, daughter of Martin and Ann (Hermes) Verhagen. Mary's family was the center of her life. She was a devoted mother who thrived on her children's lives. Mary provided unconditional support during both happy and hard times. Her grandchildren were a highlight of her life. Mary made friends easily. Some of Mary's fondest memories included her Margaret Street friends and her Mafia Card Club. Mary's special companion, her pet cat, Missy, was with her through her last days. Mary had a thirst for learning. Although her formal education ended after the sixth grade, Mary was very proud that she later earned her high school diploma. She was an avid book reader and Packer fan. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and word searches and crocheted an afghan for every member in the family, including Missy.
Mary is survived by her mother, Anne Verhagen; and her children, Carol Lenz, Appleton; Mary (Jack) Filen, Appleton; Laurie (Jon) Ford, Puyallup, Wash.; Steve (Jean) Lenz, Freedom; Tim (Stacy) Lenz, Appleton; and their father, Joe Lenz, Menasha. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Eric Filen, Beckie (Blayne) Jackson, Brian Ford, Robin and Jennifer Lenz, Tyler and Mikel Lenz, Shanti Varma-Lenz; and a grandchild due in March; a great-grandson, Elijah Jackson; a brother and a sister, Martin (Judy) Verhagen, Little Chute; Lorayne Wilson, Batavia, Ill; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Martin Verhagen.

The funeral service is at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating followed by interment at the St. John Cemetery.

Mary's family thanks the caregivers at Century Oaks Margaret House for their loving care and concern and for becoming part of Mom's family.
The Lord saw she was getting tired and opened his arms for her to go home. Now we have a very special angel in heaven watching over us.
