- Steven Charles Schommer, age 66, of Green Bay, formerly of Appleton; loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away Saturday June 22, 2019. He was born July 7, 1952, in Green Bay to Marcella (Helein) and John Schommer.
All that knew Steve, loved Steve. His smile would light up a room. Steve had quick wit with an amazing sense of humor which has been passed on to his children and grandchildren. Steve was an avid Wisconsin sports fan who loved hunting and fishing. He graduated at Appleton East High School with the class of 71. Steve was Melanie's best friend and soulmate and the greatest love of her life. Steve was a man who always put family first and put others needs ahead of his own. Steve was a kid at heart but unfortunately his heart couldn't keep with this youthful spirit.
Steve is survived by his loving wife Melanie Schommer (Vicenzi), Steve's six children: Angela; Craig (Leah), Julie (special friend Mandy), and Eric (Choua) Schommer, Jamie Wittman (Adam) and Robert Slade. Steve is further survived by five grandchildren: Patrick (Jessica) Boettcher, Kaitlynn Retzlaff (special friend Jakie), Gaberiel Retzlaff, Andrew Schommer; siblings Sandra (Larry) Russell, Dan (Mary) Schommer, Bonnie (Frank) Dennee, Jacqueline (Dan) Sturm, Kevin (Sue) Schommer, Gary (Polly) Schommer, Karla (Earl) Dennee, Tom (Lisa) Schommer, and Amy (Greg) Schoettler. He is additionally survived by many nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by parents John and Marcella Schommer, son Alvin Schommer, grandchildren Izabella and Tristan Retzlaff.
A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 7:30 pm Friday, June 28th, at the Brettschneider Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral chapel Friday from 4:30 pm until 7:15 pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
