"Chuck"
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center, Punta Gorda, Florida. Chuck was born December 31, 1923 to the late Lawrence and Dora Steffens. He spent his childhood in Appleton and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1941. Chuck served in the Army from 1943 to 1946. He graduated from the Business Institute, Milwaukee with a degree in accounting. Chuck married Betty Hooyman, August 27, 1949, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Appleton. He was employed as a data processing manager by Kimberly-Clark Corporation in Neenah, Wisconsin, Memphis, Tennessee and Dayton, Ohio. He retired in 1986 after 30 years of service. Chuck was an avid reader and fisherman and enjoyed doing both at the same time. He also loved to garden (especially growing roses), woodworking, golfing, and bowling. He was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton. Chuck was an active volunteer in church and civic organizations. He spent many years as a Cub and Boy Scout leader in Memphis, Tennessee. Prior to his stroke in 1993 he was a volunteer at the Saint Joseph Food Pantry for many years. Chuck was a resident of Punta Gorda, Florida since his retirement spending winters in Florida and summers in Wisconsin. Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Betty 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Bruce (Cathy) Steffens, Orlando, Florida David (Nan) Steffens, Dayton, Ohio Alan (Nora) Steffens, Seattle, Washington four grandsons: Jeremy (Melody), Lafayette, Indiana Benjamin, Orlando, Florida Matthew and Zachary, Dayton, Ohio and a granddaughter, Shannon, Seattle, Washington brothers and sisters-in-law: Ceil Smith Marge (Donald) Baer Mary Keller, and Ken Steffens, all of Appleton Edward (Marian), Santa Barbara, California Larry (Cleo), Kelly Lake, Wisconsin Gene (Connie), Oshkosh, Wisconsin and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Florian and brothers-in-law: Bob Kranhold, John Fentz, Don Keller and Bill Smith sisters-in-law: Mildred Kranhold and Florence Fentz. The Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11 A.M. Tuesday April 2, 2002, at Saint Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton, Wisconsin with the Reverend Donald Zuleger officiating. Entombment will take place at Saint Joseph Cemetery, Appleton. Friends may call at Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Monday, April 1, 2002 from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. and at the church on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the time of sevice. A parish wake service will be held Monday, 6:30 P.M. at the funeral chapel. A celebration of Life will be held at the Columbus Club following the church service.
