Verkuilen, Viola Amanda Viola Amanda Verkuilen, Kaukauna, age 92, died April 28, 2007, at Brewster Village. She was born November 6, 1914, to the late Otto and Emma (Mantei) Grimm in Kaukauna, where her father worked for the railroad. Viola quit school in her junior year in Kaukauna, and then worked in a few restaurants, Harold Frank Grocery Store, her husband's plumbing shop as a book keeper, all in Kaukauna, and then for Fairlane 5 & 10 in Appleton. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Little Chute. On April 2, 1933, Viola Grimm became the bride of Louis Martin VerKuilen at Holy Cross Priest House and together they raised three children. Viola was baptized at Immanuel Evangelical & Reformed Church now Immanuel United Church of Christ where she became a member in 1929, and has remained an active member ever since. Not only did she serve in the Women's Guild and its Circles, but she was also a part of the Prayer Circle.
She is survived by two sons: DuWayne (Shirley) VerKuilen, Shawano; Ronald (Nancy) VerKuilen, Little Chute; a daughter, Patricia (Frank) Lamers, Combined Locks; 16 grandchildren, and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Emma Grimm; her husband Louis in 1987; a great granddaughter, Danielle Pleshek; three brothers: Elmer, Carl and an infant brother Walter.
Memorial Service for Viola will be held Thursday May 3, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, 510 Sullivan, Kaukauna with Pastor Melinda Feller officiating. Friends may call at church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers a memorial is being established.
The family would like to thank the staff at Brewster Village, especially Judy, for the care they gave Viola as well as Theda Care Hospice for the compassion they gave Mom during her final days.
