      Steffens, Edward A. Edward A. Steffens, age 82, of Santa Barbara, CA died July 16, 2004 at home after a heroic battle with a blood disease. He was born January 26, 1922 in Freedom, the son of the late Lawrence A. and Dora Steffens of Appleton. Ed graduated from Appleton High School in 1939. He served his country in the U.S. Army in World War II, serving under General Patton. After service he attended school in Milwaukee and joined Delco Electronics in 1959 where he meet his wife, Marian. They were transferred to Santa Barbara, CA in 1972, and retired in 1984. Ed enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards with friends, and working on home projects. Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Marian, two sons: Gary, Minneapolis, MN and James, Milwaukee; two grandchildren, three sisters: Ceil Smith, Little Chute; Marge (Don) Baer and Mary (Don) Keller, both of Appleton; three brothers: Lawrence (Cleo) Steffens, Kelly Lake, Eugene (Connie) Steffens, Oshkosh, and Kenneth (Mary) Steffens, Mackville; and sister-in-law Betty Steffens, Appleton. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Charles and Florian, and brother-in-law Don Keller. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas More Church, 1810 N. McDonald Street, Appleton, on August 7 at the 5 p.m. mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed's name to the Oncology Dept. of Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA. Interment is at Calvary Cemetery, Santa Barbara, CA.
