- Gayle A. Van Gheem, 67, of De Pere, formerly of Freedom, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at a local hospital. She was born in Green Bay, WI on September 16, 1945, the daughter of the late Ray and Angie (Smits) Schumerth. On July 4, 1967 she married Dan Van Gheem at St. Mary Church, De Pere. Gayle was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oneida and a very prayerful woman. She had a fighting spirit and a generous heart. Gayle was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1983. Even with her diagnosis she kept a positive attitude. Her fighting spirit helped her become a cancer survivor. She enjoyed television and talking with family and friends. Gayle and Dan spent 42 years together on their farm until Dan moved to Angel's Touch Assisted Living in Ledgeview. Since then Gayle went to visit and spend as much time as she could with Dan. Gayle's greatest love was her children and her grandchildren.Gayle is survived by her husband Dan Van Gheem; son Tim (Susan) Van Gheem; daughter Tracie (Dustin) Van Gheem-Rottier; five grandchildren: Annah, Lauren, Giselle, Garrett, Gretchen; brother Barry (Mary Ann) Schumerth; Dan's siblings: Anna Mae (Louis) Peterson, John "Jack" (Mary Ann) Van Gheem, Phil (Delores) Van Gheem, and Nick (Connie) Van Gheem; her special friend/cousin Kathy Smits; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Tyler Van Gheem. Family and friends may visit on Saturday, August, 24, 2013 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church-Oneida, 145 St. Joseph Dr, Oneida, 54155. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. John Katamba officiating and Deacon Everett "Bobby" Doxtator assisting. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, De Pere.
